Most of the time, I’m working with leaders and boards on capital campaigns, major fundraising initiatives, board development, or executive coaching but a few times a year I take on a fellow nonprofit consultant and help them scale or level up their business.

A few years ago, I did that with @lizlange who’s based in Lincoln, Nebraska. She’s whip smart, delivers results, and deeply cares for her clients and community. Plus she’s funny and kind and a good person. 🫶🏻

So when she decided to take herself on a business retreat in Portland to make space to think about what’s next for her business and asked if I’d be a part of it, easiest yes ever ✨

Our time together boiled down to this — which applies to all leaders — once you’ve reached a certain stage in your career, it stops being about more technical knowledge and more about growing yourself.

Leadership is an inside job, and it starts with us leading ourselves. And we are usually our hardest direct report. ✨
